Living Things and Their Environment

 

living:  people, animals, and plants

 

reproduce:  When living things make new things like themselves.

 

nonliving:  do not need food, air and water; they do not grow and change

 

environment:  all the living and nonliving things in a place

 

basic needs:  Required for an organism to survive; air, water, nutrients, light, food, shelter (for animals), etc.

 

organism:  a living person, animal, or plant

 

plant:  living things such as grasses, trees, seaweeds, or fungi

 

animal:  Any of numerous  organisms that ingest food rather than manufacturing it themselves and are usually able to move about during at least part of their life cycle

 

grow:  to increase in size by a natural process

 

offspring:  the descendant of a person, animal, or plant considered as a group
